Obituary
A life remembered with care.
Walter Rebot, born April 21, 1946, passed away on May 14, 2026, at the age of 80. His family announced his passing with deep sadness, remembering him as a loving and devoted husband to Sharon (May), his wife of 60 years.
He was the loving father of Karen (Mike Rivers), Christa (Dave Gunn), and Stephanie (Stephen Tarling), and the doting grandfather of Ally and Zach Rivers, Gavin and Dawson Gunn, and Duncan and Griffin Tarling. Walter is also remembered by his sister Romana Owens (the late Garry), his brother Dr. Morris Rebot (the late Lidia), his brothers- and sisters-in-law Sandi and Ken McDonald and Guy and Stephanie May, and many nieces and nephews.
Walter was predeceased by his mother Roza Czyz, father Stanley Rebot, stepfather Joe Czyz, and brother John Rebot.
He loved cars, especially classic cars, and his 1967 marina blue Camaro convertible held a special place in his heart. Many summer evenings were spent at cruise-ins with the car friends who meant so much to him. During the last two months of his long illness, many of those friends kept in touch when he could no longer be at the regular meet-ups in person. He also continued to show up for Friday night cards with his longtime GUMA friends for as long as he was able.
Walt was a retired GM supervisor, an inventor, a restaurateur, a deep thinker, and the founder of Durham Obituaries, which he ran for 30 years. He loved flying microlight airplanes from his backyard, and he had the rare ability to build or fix almost anything.
Above all, Walter loved his family fiercely, and they loved him back.

The family extends sincere thanks to oncologist Dr. Zalewski, hematologist Dr. Naassan and the team at DRCC, Dr. Morton, Ontario Health at Home, and the Palliative Care LHO team whose care allowed Walter to pass away at home.
